Tom Mullian - Outlaws of Peace
banner4 Outlaws of Peace (4:02)

I’ve been haunted by my dreams
and hunted in the night
I’ve been down in the darkness
and blinded by the light
I’ve been shattered like glass
and scattered like seed
and I will reap the harvest
of my toil and my deeds

now the sky is cut from steel
and clouds hewn from stone
time is still upon the hillside
as we ride here alone
now the marshals they are waiting
down by the riverside
because we defended liberty
and took that freedom ride

who will stand up?
who will speak out?
who will come and take my hand?
join the circle of freedom
and we’ll take back this land
who will ride into the storm
until the war cries have ceased?
we who are the outlaws
the outlaws of peace

now they know we’ll go quietly
they know we’re unarmed
but they made us into outlaws
they say that we’ll do harm
have you heard what I’m saying?
have I made myself clear?
why are these words so dangerous?
what is it that they fear?

in the first wisp of twilight
they put us all in chains
down by the banks of the river
but we didn’t feel the pain

and their horses were rearing
on the cold winter ground
they were longing for freedom
to throw their riders down

who will.....

on the day of the trial
they wouldn’t let us speak
bound and gagged in the courtroom
no witnesses to seek
and they framed us with treason
and threw away our rights
then they held us in secret
in the dungeons of the night

we were clear-eyed in the morning
with the wind in our hair
we climbed up the scaffold
in the old village square
and the mourners were singing
slowly banging the drum
from the seas to great plains
we shall overcome...

who will stand up?
who will speak out?
who will come and take my hand?
join the circle of freedom
and we’ll take back this land
who will ride into the storm
until the war cries have ceased?
we who are the outlaws
the outlaws of peac
